Millennials’ Impact on Retail and Onboarding Strategies
While all generations are different from one another, Millennials have come of age in an era of unprecedented technology. This creates unique challenges in both marketing to Millennials and attracting and retaining them as employees. Tom’s presentation will look at the unique characteristics of the Millennial generation and explain how both dealers and OEMs can better market to them and create a work environment that will engage them in the long-run.
Specifically, Tom will address:
- How Millennials research and shop for cars and how this applies to today’s retail environments
- Pre and post hire processes to attract and retain younger sales associates
- Developing pay plans that will motivate and retain this new employee
- Training that engages and promotes career growth to support retention
About Tom Carney
Tom Carney is a highly respected thirty year plus automotive industry veteran who previously held the post of Vice President of Sales at American Suzuki Motor Corporation. He has also held key executive leadership positions at American Honda Motor Corporation, Volkswagen of America and tier one supplier, Meridian Automotive Systems, Aerovironment, EVOX images and Northwood University in the U.S. as well as China. While in an executive capacity with American Suzuki, Mr. Carney also taught new product marketing and buyer behavior courses at UCLA. He is well-traveled and knowledgeable about the unique transformation of consumers throughout the US and China and brings a wealth of leadership, executive and dealership experience to the NADA Academy Team. Over the last 3 years Tom has instructed at the NADA Academy initially co-instructing in Financial Management and over the last 2 years as lead instructor for Variable 2- New Car Operations class as well as taking on the role of SME presenting to dealer groups, 20 Groups and major OEM’s around the country.
